Cy Young’s Perfect Game

May 5, 1904, is a date that every baseball fan is aware of. This was the day when Cy Young, one of the greatest pitchers in baseball history, registered the first perfect game in Major League Baseball history.

A perfect game in baseball is a game in which a pitcher does not allow a single player from the opposition team on base. This means that the pitcher gets twenty-seven27 batters out without any of them scoring any runs. A perfect game is a rare feat in the world of baseball, and it is considered a milestone achievement.

Cy Young, who played for the Boston Americans at that time (now the Boston Red Sox), was up against the Phillies during his historic game. In the game, he faced twenty-seven batters and struck each one of them out. As a result, his team won the game against the Phillies flawlessly, with a score of 3-0. This perfect game cemented Young’s already impressive legacy, making him one of the greatest pitchers in baseball history.

In the following years, other pitchers achieved perfect games, but none could replicate the same magic that Cy Young did on that fateful day. In fact, it took almost half a century for the second perfect game in Major League Baseball history to be registered.

The significance of Cy Young’s achievement can be observed through the fact that he went on to become a legendary figure in baseball history. His legacy lies in his five hundred and eleven career wins in Major League Baseball, the most by any pitcher in the game’s history. In honor of his achievements, the Cy Young Award was created, awarded annually to the best pitcher in the American and National League.
