On February 13, 2000, the final Peanuts comic strip was published. In it, the comic strip writer, Charles M. Schulz, announced his retirement. However, Schulz had passed away a few hours earlier, on February 12, at the age of seventy-seven.
“All of a sudden I thought, ‘You know, that poor, poor kid, he never even got to kick the football. What a dirty trick—he never had a chance to kick the football.’”[1]
